‘THE HITCHER’ is Coming to 4K UHD & Blu-Ray Later This Year!

While I’ve personally been interested in going through a retrospective of Robert Harmon’s “road horror” career, the film that defined him for genre fans is 1986’s The Hitcher. Sadly, the availability of the film has really stunted the film’s chance to grow fond in the hearts of the newer genre fan. Right now, the film is streaming via HBOMax (feel free to click the app icon above to go to the direct page).

Physical media collectors have been dying to get their hands on a release of this film, with just recently fans being upset with Arrow because they had new artwork commissioned for a book of the film instead of an actual release. News came in today from Second Sight, the people behind some fantastic Blu-Ray editions of Dawn of the DeadLake Mungo, and the upcoming releases of Martin, and Dog Soldiers, that they are working with Warner Brothers to get this cult favorite onto disc with not only a 4K restoration but a 4K UHD and Blu-Ray release!

4K UHD is Region Free, so if you’re already 4K, you should be able to import this bad boy. If not, more than likely their Blu-Ray will be Region B locked. If you are in North America, you will need a region free Blu-Ray player if they do lock it (which honestly, if you love movies and physical media, get yourself one).

While this film did get a German Blu-Ray release, it was a simple HD transfer to disc. No special features and no restoration. Definitely not what this film deserves.

We will keep everyone updated with more news about this release as we hear of it.
