Late Nite Grindhouse Presents ‘SHOCKER’ on March 20 & 21 at Marcus Des Peres

Wes Craven is best known for “A Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Scream” but in between those colossal hits are his underappreciated films. From 1988-1991, Craven had three films released by Universal Pictures, back when Universal had a hard-on for the Horror genre. Between “The Serpent and the Rainbow” and “The People Under the Stairs”, he made “Shocker”. No lie, it does feel like Craven was trying to make another Freddy Krueger with this one but it predates other tech-thrillers like the similarly-themed “Ghost in the Machine” further proving that Craven was ahead of the curve with some of his films. SHOCKER features a killer soundtrack featuring Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Dangerous Toys and The Dudes of Wrath, which was composed of Kiss’ Paul Stanley, Whitesnake’s Rudy Sarzo, and Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee on drums.

This film was chosen in conjunction with Manuela Biener for our prize donation to 2019’s RELEASE THE HOUNDS show which helped raise funds for Stray Rescue for St. Louis.

After being captured for a series of gruesome murders, Horace Pinker (Mitch Pileggi), a television repairman, faces execution by the electric chair — but a deal with the devil allows him to come back as electricity. Once he changes into his new form, Pinker goes after the detective that brought him down, Lt. Don Parker (Michael Murphy), as well as Parker’s adopted son, Jonathan (Peter Berg). However, Jonathan’s mysterious connection to Pinker through dreams might help track the killer’s moves.

He misses VHS and his personal Saturday night 6 tape movie marathons from his youth.
