Trailer: Wes Craven’s MY SOUL TO TAKE

Look, let’s be honest, Wes Craven’s recent directorial entries haven’t really brought anything new to the table.  I thought Red Eye was a glorified television film, Cursed was….well…you know.  Both of those films came out five years ago.  Before those films, he directed Scream 3 back in 2000.

Since 2008, I have been hearing about Wes Craven directing a new film.  In August 2008, he was at Toronto’s Festival of Fear as a Guest of Honor.  Unfortunately, I didn’t attend his Q&A panel where he announced that My Soul to Take (then called “25/8“) as his next film.

I have been wondering what Wes Craven had in store for us and the trailer beyond the break gives you a hint…

Ok, now that you saw that, lets talk about a couple of things.  First things first, why is Craven mimicing his own iconic wall scene from A Nightmare on Elm Street.  I mean, come on.  I’m ok with certain signatures and recurring icons, but recycling a scare or scene is ridiculous.
Other complaint is that this fucker is in 3D!!  Really, this doesn’t look like it needs to be in 3D.  My Soul to Take 3D sticks out like the poster child of this post conversion 3D mania that the Hollywood studios believe will save themselves.  Yes, I know Piranha 3D is post-converted, but at least the 3D part makes sense for that film.
Ugh.
My Soul to Take in 3D will be released October 8th, 2010
