Late Nite Grindhouse Presents THE FILMS OF PANOS COSMATOS: ‘BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW’ & ‘MANDY’ – April 15 & 16 at Marcus Des Peres

Back in 2011 I was introduced to director Panos Cosmatos with his debut feature film, Beyond the Black Rainbow. The following year, our third year of Late Nite Grindhouse, I was excited to book it for the St. Louis Theatrical Premiere as it wasn’t being shown anywhere in the city – which I thought was a travesty as it is a film that needs to be seen as big and as loud as possible. Fast-forward to 2018 when his follow-up, Mandy, premiered at Sundance to rave reviews, I knew I had to step in and book it for the midnight program it deserved. To date, it has been the most successful LNGH show in our almost 12 year existence. Panos Cosmatos is one of my, if not my only, favorite contemporary directors working. Both films speak to me on different levels and, quite honestly, I have probably watched each film more than 10 times. Over the years, I came to realize that a lot of people who love and adore Mandy still hadn’t seen his previous film or were clamoring at the chance to see it on the big screen. Selfishly, I had the idea of doing this double feature for my birthday month (if I wasn’t going to be out of town on my birthday, it would have been that weekend).

I’m proud to have teamed up with Magnet Releasing & RLJE Films to bring Cosmatos’ psychotronic nightmares back to the big screen through Late Nite Grindhouse at Marcus Des Peres 14 Cine.

Andy Triefenbach is the Editor-in-Chief and owner of DestroytheBrain.com. In addition to his role on the site, he also programs St. Louis' monthly horror & exploitation theatrical midnight program, Late Nite Grindhouse. Coming from a household of a sci-fi father and a horror/supernatural loving mother, Andy's path to loving genre film was clear. He misses VHS and his personal Saturday night 6 tape movie marathons from his youth.
