PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 Looks more like a Prequel than a Sequel

Modern horror has seen a new direction in the past year with the demise of the Saw series.  Blood and gore has taken a backseat to more creepy and subtle scares.  This is evident in not only the second Paranormal sequel released last year, but Black Swan, The Last Exorcism, Splice, and this year’s Insidious.  With the popularity of these creepy features, it seems only fitting that the producers of Paranormal Activity continue in the vein of scary instead of shocking.  Say what you will about the second entry and the fact that the scares were more of the same, what I did appreciate about the sequel is its intent to expand the story first started in the original surprise hit of 2009.  Now with the third film, Paranormal Activity 3, the writers have decided to explore the back-story of the two sisters from the first two films.  Travel back to 1988 in this first trailer for Paranormal Activity 3.

Paranormal Activity 3 haunts theater beginning Oct. 21, 2011.  The directors of the indie film Catfish is behind this sequel/prequel.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
