Hammer Horror Legend, Ingrid Pitt, Passes Away

Ingrid Pitt, the Polish-born actress best known for her sexy and seductive vampire roles in Countess Dracula and The Vampire Lovers has passed away. At the age of 73, the horror actress’s death was due to heart problems. Pitt’s daughter, Steffanie Pitt, made a statement saying: She passed away this morning. It was heart trouble. She had a couple of bad years, health-wise, but she had fought through. Anyone who knew my mother would say she was incredibly feisty and determined to make a good fist of everything she wanted to do. The stunning actress also made a name for herself appearing in 1973’s The Wicker Man, The House That Dripped Blood, the recent 2008 vampire film Sea of Dust, and (my personal favorite) the Clint Eastwood starring WWII film Where Eagles Dare. Even though Ingrid Pitt has moved on from this world, she has left behind a career of classic horror films that will be able to scare us for years to come.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
