Argento’s DRACULA 3D Update: “Financing Was Never An Issue”

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday break filled with lots of food and hopefully a ton of new horror movie DVD’s and collectibles.  If you remember a few days ago, Andy informed us about the financial backing that finally went through on Dario Argento’s long planned first 3D film, Dracula 3D. You may also have noted that the schedule of production would begin at the end of February, thus possibly jeopardizing his appearance at Horrorhound Weekend in March.  Well, thankfully, Nathan from Horrorhound was able to set a couple of things straight after speaking to Argento’s manager.  Find out the updated status of the film and his convention appearance beyond the break.

A copy of the email I received from Nathan from Horrorhound is below. I want to thank Nathan for the fast response and for keeping us updated on Dario Argento’s status with the convention.

“So I just spoke with Argento’s manager. He said this is all news to him. Said the financing has never been an issue to get the film up and running – it was getting the 3D and crew set up to work properly. In fact, he said he just spoke with Sergio Stivaletti a couple days ago and Sergio mentioned that he had no idea what was happening (since he has to do the effects – he needs a heads-up on filming so he can work out 3D effects with the crew). … So who knows. His manager didn’t seem concerned about his appearance being in jeopardy – so I won’t be until I get some news from the man himself.”

So there you have it. It looks like Argento is still planning on being in Indianapolis March 25-27, 2011. I attended last year’s spring convention and I personally had a blast.  I am sure next year’s convention will not be any different. Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
