The Dark Corner of the Toy Box: Sideshow is ready to renew the Faith in BUFFY fans

After seven successful seasons, Buffy the Vampire S layer’s creator Joss Whedon and his talented cast and crew put a spike in the popular TV show.  The 90’s hit show not only introduced the world to one of the most creative minds working in TV, comics, and movies (Firefly and the upcoming The Avengers), but gave us iconic characters that were always treading the fine line between horror and comedy.  Forget the dull movie from the 80’s that gave birth to Buffy Summers, Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be the true Buffy for fans.  Her quirky innocence was balanced out with her strong skills as a vampire slayer.  In Season 3 of the show, fans were introduced to another slayer that stood in stark contrast to Buffy.  More spontaneous, vicious, careless, and a lot more sexual, Faith represented a girl that not only had to perform the role of the slayer but also someone that really enjoyed the savagery of it.  Sideshow Collectibles has released statues for the rabid Buffy fans in the past of the iconic title slayer and her witchy pal Willow.  Now the company has unveiled plans to do a statue of everyone’s favorite “bad slayer”: Faith.

Sideshow Collectibles has a long and rich history of releasing custom statues, busts, and replica film and TV props.  Their attention to detail is unlike any other which has set them apart from the competition for years.  Though their price-point may take some people back, the fact that their products are usually at a limited edition run and are individually hand-crafted makes fans and collectors flock to their releases.

The new Faith statue stands at 18″ in (457 mm) and weighs 7 lbs.  It is made of strong poly stone and includes a cemetery base complete with a rising vampire hand.  The pre-sale for this item began last Thursday, June 2nd.  Two versions were available at that time, an exclusive version of only 250 that featured an alternate arm that had Faith holding her trademark knife, and a standard version that only included the arm holding a crossbow.  Since the pre-sale, the exclusive has already sold-out but the standard is still available.  It is not listed at this time how many Sideshow will make of this standard version of the statue.  Both retailed at $249.99.  Both versions will be sold on a first come, first served basis, and will have the FLEXPay option available as a payment choice when placing your Pre-Order.  As with all products by Sideshow, each statue is individually painted.

Though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the facial sculpts on the previous Buffy and Willow statues, I have to admit I was blown away when I first saw the face on this one.  Faith was played with spunky zeal by the seductive Eliza Dushku on the show.  Whedon fans may recognize her from his later show Dollhouse that starred Dushku. The pose that the artists from Sideshow have sculpted of Dushku, perfectly captures her character’s dynamic and sexual personality.  To see more images of this great sculpt or to purchase the statue as part of the pre-sale, click hereBuffy the Vampire Slayer’s unique blend of serious storytelling dripping with horror and campy humor still is seen as an inspiration for many shows released today.  Where would Being Human be without Buffy?  In honor of this classic show, Sideshow has put together a fitting piece of memorabilia that pays homage to one of the show’s great characters.  To see what Sideshow and other companies are releasing in the future to please us hungry horror fans, make sure to keep reading to find out what’s lurking in The Dark Corner of the Toy Box.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
