Contamination 2011: The Sequel hits St. Louis in the Summer

Last year, St. Louis experienced a convention that covered horror (obviously a subject DTB is interested in), sci-fi and pop culture.  This year, the convention is back.  Most St. Louisians have to travel out of state to check out a convention with the guest list Contamination had last year.  Read beyond the break to get the skinny on who has been announced for next year’s convention which has not only changed venues, but at what time of year we can expect it.

From the Press Release:

St. Louis, MO – November 10, 2010 – Dyer Straits Productions announce the dates and current headliners for Contamination 2011 The Sequel, their highly anticipated follow-up to St. Louis’ first horror, sci-fi and pop-culture convention under one roof.   The Sheraton Westport Chalet will host the event June 24th – 26th, 2011.  Actor Eric Roberts and “The Boondock Saints” Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and David Dela Rocco will headline.

Eric Roberts, one of Hollywood’s edgier, more intriguing characters, was most recently seen this summer in Sylvester Stallone’s action hit “The Expendables.”  Among his numerous credits, too lengthy to mention, he had a memorable role in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” as Salvatore Maroni and is probably best known as “Paulie” in “The Pope of Greenwich Village.”  He has also been a recurring character on popular soap opera “The Young and the Restless” this year.

Cult favorites from “The Boondock Saints” and its sequel have been attracting long lines at conventions this year and will be a highly anticipated addition to the Contamination family for St. Louis fans.  Sean Patrick Flanery, one half of the “McManus brothers,” can be seen as “Bobby” in the latest in the “Saw” series, “Saw 3D.”   Appearing in numerous film and television series, Sean is probably best known for his roles in “Powder” and “The Young Indiana Jones” outside of his role as Conor McManus. Norman Reedus, the other half of the “McManus brothers,” has a featured role as “Daryl Dixon” in the much buzzed about AMC series “The Walking Dead.”  “8MM,” “Blade II,” “The Notorious Bettie Page” and “American Gangster” are just a few of the many films and television projects he has on his resume.  David Della Rocco made a name for himself as the unforgettable “Rocco” in “The Boondock Saints.”  A childhood friend of “The Boondock Saints” writer/director Troy Duffy, he is also a classically trained actor.

The successful event that began this new tradition in St. Louis – Contamination 2010 – was held April 30 through May 2, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Viking and featured film legends from popular horror classics like “The Howling” and George A. Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” and “Day of the Dead,”  pop culture icon Larry Thomas, “The Soup Nazi” from “Seinfeld,” sports legend Ken Norton, the 70s Godfather of Soul Cinema, Fred “The Hammer” Williamson, “The Lost Boys” Brooke McCarter and Billy Wirth and showcased one of the most recognized cars in the world – The Batmobile.

Vendors can reserve space for the 2011 event now at the Dyer Straits Website: http://www.con-tamination.com.   Filmmakers can send DVD screeners of their short or feature films to be considered to: Dyer Straits Productions, 1433 (B)  Woodcrest Manor, Ballwin, MO 63021.  More information can be found on the website or by contacting Dyer Straits Productions at contamination2010@gmail.com.   Check the site and their Facebook page for more a complete list of celebrities, artists, filmmakers, authors and vendors added to the line-up as they are confirmed.

Now, I know that you don’t see any prominent horror celebs, but I’m sure that will change.  Also, if you want to get technical, Reedus is in The Walking Dead  and Sean Patrick Flanery has been in his fair share of horror flicks.

I hope to see you there!
