Edgar Wright is Apprehensive about Directing an Episode of THE WALKING DEAD

As everyone is drooling over the new season one box-set of The Walking Dead, series co-creator Frank Darabont is busy setting up season two of the highly popular zombie drama.  Fanboy and filmmaker Edgar Wright was in Austin this past weekend for the SXSW film festival.  Talking to Collider, Wright revealed he has been asked by Darabont himself to direct an episode of the show!  Reading Wright’s response to the question leaves a lot up in the air.  Will he or won’t he … you decide based on his answer (which you can find after the break).

Known for his genre bending comedies, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Wright seems like an unlikely candidate for the serious tone of the show.  Yet we all know of his love of the genre (don’t forget his fake horror trailer for Don’t) and his love of zombies.  Maybe he will bring a little bit of comedy to the table, kind of in the vein of the second part of the zombie-esque film The Signal.

You can find Mr. Wright’s not so optomistic answer to Frank Darabont below.

“Frank asked me to do a WALKING DEAD, actually. But I feel that there’s some subject matter that, like, even though it’d be great – and I love that show: I actually watched four of the six episodes uninterrupted in one run; it was like zombie Pringles – I think that with something like that, with some TV shows, you wanna be in on the ground floor.”

He continues, “I really enjoyed the first season, and I wouldn’t wanna be the guy that comes in and fucks it up.”

This doesn’t sound good, folks. Frank! Do some convincing! Now!

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
