Chiller Network Looking to Scare Up Some New Originals

I have a love hate relationship with Chiller. To be honest, I really only watch it around Halloween. Their count down shows are pretty good, but I’m not happy with most of the programming they show because it’s usually Syfy recycles or some straight to DVD low budget flicks that aren’t worth anyone’s time. I was pleased to see them pick up Showtime’s Masters of Horror, and I’ll be honest, the airing of Buffy put a smile on my face. So it seems with the recent success of some original programming they will venture into films now instead of just countdowns. Read more after the jump to see the two new features from Chiller.

First up is Steve Niles’ Remains, which is about two survivors of a bad and bizarre accident that reduces the population to nothing but zombies. The film is slated for 2011 and will be loosely based of Niles’ (30 Days of Night) graphic novel of the same name . The movie is written by John Doolan and directed by Colin Theys. The official plot is below.

Based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles, and set in a chilling post-apocalyptic Reno, Nevada, Remains follows the two lone survivors of a bizarre accident that reduced most of the world’s population to zombies. The pair take refuge in a vacant casino and fight a losing battle against the undead, who grow steadily stronger, smarter and more aggressive by the minute.

Second is Brian Keene’s Ghoul, which is based off a Boris Karloff  horror movie of the same name. The story follows a group of friends who risk their lives to try and uncover and stop a rash of disappearances in their town.

Overall the programming has gotten better on Chiller but I am still disappointed on the material that is available to show.  I’m sure it has to do with contracts from film studios on why so many more horror movies aren’t shown on the channel. Off the success of Chillers: The Decades 13 Scariest Movie Moments they are doing a follow up this year called Chillers: 13 Horror’s Creepiest kids which should be great. It will showcase some of the scariest child actors in films from Reagan (The Exorcist) to Issac (Children of The Corn).

This all bodes well for Chiller TV. I was happy to hear this announcement since it will hopefully allow them to extend their film catalog and keep this channel relevant for years to come. Now, if we could just do something about the long infomercial style commercials it will be all good.
