A&E Opens the Doors to the ‘BATES MOTEL’

There has been mumblings for awhile now about a Psycho prequel in the works being developed by A&E. Now it looks like they will spawn this into a television series after all instead of a made for TV movie. A&E has announced that they have picked up 10 episodes for a first season of Bates Motel. The producer from the hit Lost, Carlton Cuse, is teaming up with Kerry Ehrin to create the series and both have also confirmed they will be working on the creative side of the show as well.

The show will premiere in 2013 but we have no idea on casting right now. Anthony Cipriano (Skate) has written the pilot episode.  We do have the original synopsis on the show listed below. With the success of shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Justified, and The Walking Dead, A&E looks to throw their hat in the basic cable TV series ring by competing with other networks like FX and AMC. A show like Bates Motel has a chance to do what no other programming has been able to do as of yet: capture fans of the old Hitchcock classic and garner new younger fans as well. Here is the first plot summary of Bates Motel:

“Bates Motel” serves as a prequel to the most famous fright film of all-time, “Psycho.” A&E is currently in script development. “Bates Motel” will give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates’ psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.

He soon started his own radio program "The Gutter" in 2006 which featured various types of metal music along with news on the horror industry.
