Must See: A Killer Video for The Shoes – ‘Time to Dance’

I have previously stated that I am a huge fan of short films. While most short films are reserved for film festivals, what seems to happening more and more are music videos using more of a narrative or abstract format to not glorify the artist but to actually tell a story. Over a week ago, a group called The Shoes – no, not the group from the 70’s – released a video starring Donnie Darko himself, Jake Gyllenhaal, as a club hopping, throat slashing, hammer bashing serial killer. Intercut some footage of him eating, getting a shave and working out and that is the basic gist of it. However, for a 8 1/2 minute video, it is kind of interesting as Gyllenhaal pulls an intense performance – especially since there is no dialogue. It doesn’t hurt that the song is kind of catchy either. The very first song you hear is “America” from The Shoes and then around the 2 minute mark, “Time to Dance” kicks in.
