‘ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES’ Collector’s Set Includes a Statue!

Back in November, DTB’s own Nyquill told you all about a new video game scheduled to be coming out soon that expands the Alien universe – Aliens: Colonial Marines. This Alien game is the latest installment in the franchise and is being created by Gearbox Software for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 systems.  An official release date of March 31, 2012 has now been announced.  Whether you want to engage in campaign missions or just have a little co-op fun, the game looks to fully engage players in the sci-fi/horror universe that was first introduced in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien.

If the game wasn’t enough to have you salivating from the mouth like a H.R. Giger alien creature, we now have news of something even more satisfying.  A leaked promotional image for a special edition collectors set of the game has been released online!  The set will include some exclusive in-game content, like the unlocking of specific weapons.  Yet, the real treat here is an exclusive resin statue of a powerloader fighting off an alien.  I don’t even play video games very much and I kind of want this set just for the statue.  I’m going to just stop talking about it now and will just let you droll over it for awhile.

Along with an image of the set, I’ve attached the summary of the game and a link to purchase the Xbox version of it below.

“Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.”

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
