The New ‘TALL MAN’ Trailer Takes Horror to Great Heights

the-tall-man-teaser

With The Tall Man, writer/director Pascal Laugier seems to be abandoning the gory and extreme hell he created in Martyrs in favor of a more atmospheric tale in the vein of his previous film House of Voices (which I randomly found a couple of years ago at Big Lots for only $3!).  The official trailer has been released by Image Entertainment, and while you may not get a heavy dose of scenes spotlighting the cloaked figure lurking amid the shadows, the footage does setup the seemingly normal, small, mountainous town and the history surrounding some child disappearances.  There have been several international trailers that have surfaced online for the film.  This new “official trailer” is certainly not a stretch in terms of showing new footage, but it will still excite horror fans excited for this upcoming thriller.  Not to mention, seeing Jessica Biel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) return to horror is quite refreshing in its own right.  Enjoy the trailer below.  The Tall Man enters theaters on August 31st.

In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” Town nurse Julia Denning (Biel) seems skeptical… until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller from acclaimed director Pascal Laugier

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. The battle between these two worlds has finally ceased with his current position as Managing Editor for DestroyTheBrain.com. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.

“So what are we churning out next?” “Well theres this new internet meme called ‘Slender Man’ that’s pretty creepy…” “Oh yeah? So we can ‘borrow’ the idea since its origin and creator are untraceable?” “Actually, it was traced back to an exact source.” “Nevermind that, what’s it about?” “Its a tall and skinny figure wearing a suit that emerges from shadows to kidnap children. It hides in shadows and uses trees as camouflage… oh and he can stretch his limbs to any length in addition to having tentacles on his back.” “Ummm, I like the first part, let’s drop the second part and instead of ‘Slender’ man lets go with ‘Tall’ man.” “Isnt there already a character from a popular horror movie named ‘The Tall Man’?” “Shut your face, nobody’s heard of him. Who can we get to direct… we need an edgy foreign director willing to take the the reigns on this because he’s itching to make the jump into Hollywood…” “How about Pascal Laugier? He committed a half hour of screen time pummeling a girl to death.” “Say no more, I’m S.O.L.D… Alright, let’s bring it home… Who can we get to star in it… we need a former A-list actress who took too much time off since her last gig and needs to establish herself with a starring horror vehicle…” “Jessica Biel is available.” “BOOM! DONE DEAL! PINKBERRY MUTHAFUCKA!”

I have heard mixed things about the film since it premiered at SXSW. While I can’t say I’m too excited to check it out, the only reason I’m willing to is because of the director behind it.

Also, someone in St. Louis is trying to make a film based on The Slender Man meme if you would like to help them fight the fight.
