Tarantino, who is known for writing characters that engage in witty banter, really shows his upcoming film’s dark sense of humor with this new trailer. I guess the Weinstein’s are nervous that the film may come across as too serious for the Christmas audience; much like what happened last year with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. As you can tell from the tone of the footage, an emphasis has been placed on spotlighting the humor and dialogue while still injecting a healthy amount of violence. Even funnyman Jonah Hill pops up in a comedic KKK inspired scene between slow motion shots of Jamie Foxx spinning his pistols (that’s not a sexual euphemism). Although I enjoy the execution of this trailer far more than the previous one, I still wonder if the more serious tone of the script I read (which you can find my review of HERE) is being kept hidden until the film gets released. Hopefully Tarantino will be able to balance the humor and the seriousness of the subject matter in a satisfying way. Django Unchained hits theaters on December 25.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. The battle between these two worlds has finally ceased with his current position as Managing Editor for DestroyTheBrain.com. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
