THE THING prequel crash lands a date in 2011

Universal Pictures will unleash THE THING on April 29, 2011. The reboot/prequel based on John Carpenter’s classic will star Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD”) and Joel Edgerton (“ANIMAL KINGDOM”). Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Dennis Storhøi. The action takes place in a remote Antarctica outpost, an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. When a group of ambitious scientists decide to thaw out one of the creatures inside, they’re in for the terrifying fight of their lives.

The prequel is being directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. No word yet on a proper title.
