After hearing about how good James Wan’s retro haunted house flick is (test audiences apparently loved it) and only getting a handful of stills, we are finally treated to the first trailer. Needless to say, it lives up to the hype. Wan showcased his level of skill with producing old school scares with his previous horror blockbuster Insidious. Lili Taylor and her young children are the focus in this first teaser. And although the scares showcased here aren’t anything new, Wan more than makes up for them with a level of sophistication and acute timing for when to reveal to the viewer the scares. Check it out for yourself below and try not to be spooked of clapping by the end of the trailer. The Conjuring hits theaters on July 19.
Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. The battle between these two worlds has finally ceased with his current position as Managing Editor for DestroyTheBrain.com. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
