Rise and Shine This Morning with the New Trailer for ‘THE AWAKENING’

poster-the-awakening

It’s no surprise that the popularity of Downton Abbey and the surprise hit The Woman in Black ($127 million worldwide) has led to studios scrambling to release more period-piece fare.  The Awakening on the surface sure seems to satisfy viewers looking to continue their indulgence with England in the early 1900′s.  The new trailer reveals a stately mansion saturated with atmosphere that looks to hold some chilling scares, albeit none that horror fans havn’t seen already.  Images from The Others, Orphanage, and this years’ The Woman in Black easily come to mind.  Hopefully the familiar spirit of those other films doesn’t take away from the creepiness of The Awakening

The film stars Rebecca Hall and Dominic West and is set for a wide release on August 17.

Haunted by the death of her fiancé, Florence Cathcart is on a mission to expose all séances as exploitative shams. However, when she is called to a boys’ boarding school to investigate a case of the uncanny, she is gradually forced to confront her skepticism in the most terrifying way, shaking her scientific convictions and her sense of self to the very core.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. The battle between these two worlds has finally ceased with his current position as Managing Editor for DestroyTheBrain.com. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
