‘DREDD’ Trailer Premieres

After Stallone’s mishandling of the Judge Dredd character, you would think we would never see a film adaptation of the character. However, Alex Garland (screenwriter of 28 Days Later) and Pete Travis (Vantage Point) have fashioned a story with the character and given the trailer included, I kind of like it. Judge Dredd definitely takes some influence from Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry character and became just another comic vigilante. While I don’t think he is that significant of a character to keep trying to do film adaptations from, I’m a fan of comic vigilantism. Combine that with Garland’s screenwriting and Karl Urban’s “Get Off My Lawn” gruff and maybe we will get a decent Dredd film. Check out the trailer below:

Obviously the slow motion explanation sounds pretty gimmicky and some genre fans might think this story seems a bit familiar…*cough* The Raid.  However, this production has started before The Raid was even released so I doubt there was any plagiarism at play.
Lionsgate will be releasing DREDD on September 21, 2012
