‘UPSTREAM COLOR’ Releases Another Strange New Trailer

The Sundance Film Festival is almost here.  If I was going (here’s hoping maybe someday) there would be an extensive list of films I would be eagerly wanting to check out.  Park Chan-Wook’s Stoker, Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight, the horror sequel anthology S-VHS, and Jeff Nichols’ (Take Shelter) new film Mud will all be premiering at the festival along with many others.  Yet, there’s one film that I’m even more curious to hear about than any other, and that is Shane Caruth’s Upstream Color.  I have written about the film and its last few short teasers that were released, but this new trailer – debuting just days before the film’s premiere – hints at the bigger picture that the teasers barely scratched the surface of.  Haunting medical images are juxtaposed with those of a couple’s conflict in this exceptional trailer.  More important than just the trailer is the announcement at the end that the film will be hitting theaters on April 5.  Rumors say that Caruth will initially open the film in New York and LA on April 5 before doing a roadshow of sorts with the film much like what Kevin Smith did with Red State.  Here’s hoping the film receives a positive reaction out of Sundance and that St. Louis is on the director’s short list of cities to take the film.  I know that after seeing Primer and waiting as long as I have for his feature follow-up, I want nothing more than to see this film as soon as possible. Check out the trailer below.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
