Let The Hunt Begin with the First Trailer for ‘HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS’

Jeremy Renner was supposed to have quite a year between the massive success of The Avengers, The Bourne Legacy, and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.  That plan took a turn for the worse though once the witch killing siblings got pushed back to next year and Legacy didn’t even break $100 mil. domestically on a bloated $125 mil. budget.  Thankfully foreign sales helped make up for the later film, and Paramount is still planning on releasing Tommy Wirkola’s action-packed twist on the popular fairy tale.  Horror fans will have to plan for a busy month next January when the film finally hits theaters.  First you have Texas Chainsaw 3D on January 4.  Then the next week – January 11 – will see the release of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters as well as Scary Movie 5 (cue eye roll).  Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the twin hunters who utilize a variety of guns and weapons in their line of bloody work.  Wirkola previously made a name for himself with the zany and over-the-top “Nazi-zombie” film Dead Snow.  Judging by what I see in the trailer, I have to admit that I’m fairly excited for the film.  Outside of some shoddy CGI, it looks like a fun flick that takes itself less seriously than I would have originally thought.  Be warned though, I might be in the minority here in terms of my favorable opinion of the trailer.  Check it out for yourself below.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
