We Finally Gets a Release Date for Park Chan-Wook’s ‘STOKER’

The famous South Korean director is ready to make his English language debut with Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman in Stoker.  What was previously scheduled to be released this year has now been pushed back until next year.  Even though it’s troubling to hear this, I’m still elated that we at least have an official date for the film.  March 1, 2013 is the date set for Stoker‘s release.  Many might be concerned by this move since the film is deliberately being pushed back past the awards and festival season (though Sundance could still be an option) in favor of being released in a month that many consider as a dumping ground for less than extraordinary fare.  Let me just remind you though: this film is coming from a director who has consistently amazed audiences.  Whether it was the ultra-violent revenge thriller Oldboy, the charming love-story I’m a Cyborg, But That’s Okay, or the moody thriller Thirst, Park Chan-Wook has shown a consistent skill at filmmaking that audiences should trust in regardless of a film’s release date.  I can’t encourage you enough.  Check-out Stoker this spring.  A synopsis can be found below.

After India’s (Mia Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Nicole Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
