Watch this Intense and Shocking French Trailer for Cronenberg’s ‘COSMOPOLIS’

From the electronic music, the editing, to the neon font reminiscent of Enter the Void, combined with the startling imagery, this new trailer for David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis is simply incredible.  For those who have been missing the more extreme side of Cronenberg following last year’s tame A Dangerous Method, you most likely will be pleasantly surprised with this footage.  By all accounts this can easily be described as a red-band trailer.  On display is a whirlwind of nudity, blood, and violence.  So you may want to avoid watching this at work.

There’s a line in the trailer that seems to recall a theme that has played a part in some of Cronenberg’s previous films, like Videodrome, Naked Lunch, eXistenz, and Crash.

“I’m looking for more . . .  Show me something I don’t know”

It is this simple line that is uttered by Robert Pattinson that now ranks his character of Eric Packer among the socially deviant Cronenberg characters like Max Renn and Bill Lee.  Cosmopolis is a book originally written by Don DeLillo.  In the story, a 28 yr old billionaire travels in a limo across Manhattan one day to get a haircut.  Oh . . . how this doesn’t seem like just a normal trip across town judging by the trailer.

The French trailer seen below states that it will be hitting their shores on May 23.  As of right now there is no US release date announced.  Hopefully the buzz online surrounding this :34 second trailer will fix that very soon.  Check out the footage and the new poster for the film below.  The official site for the film can be found HERE.

New York City, not-too-distant-future: Eric Packer, a 28 year-old finance golden boy dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one, watches a dark shadow cast over the firmament of the Wall Street galaxy, of which he is the uncontested king. As he is chauffeured across midtown Manhattan to get a haircut at his father’s old barber, his anxious eyes are glued to the yuan’s exchange rate: it is mounting against all expectations, destroying Eric’s bet against it. Eric Packer is losing his empire with every tick of the clock. Meanwhile, an eruption of wild activity unfolds in the city’s streets. Petrified as the threats of the real world infringe upon his cloud of virtual convictions, his paranoia intensifies during the course of his 24-hour cross-town odyssey. Packer starts to piece together clues that lead him to a most terrifying secret: his imminent assassination.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
