Watch the History of HAMMER in 90 Seconds and Get a Look at the Upcoming ‘THE QUIET ONES’

Hammer Studios holds a special place in my heart based on my horror upbringing.  My father’s love of the gothic horror films from the classic British studio certainly made an impact on me.  At the time, I was more interested in reading the most recent Goosebumps book or catching the new episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? or Tales From the Crypt than watching the more “boring” horror films.  My attention level for the classics was always waning as the characters seemed stiff in their period piece garb and the stories moved slower than to my liking.  However, I was always captivated whenever the monster was onscreen.  Whether it was the voodoo controlled zombies of The Plague of the Zombies or Oliver Reed’s brooding creature in The Curse of the Werewolf, I instantly was held captive by the films when the monsters terrorized my television screen.  As I grew older my fondness for these once “boring”  films began to grow.  Back in 2010, I did a history of some of Hammer’s most famous productions in honor of their theatrical return with Let Me In.  I’ve attached the links to those articles below.  Now, in honor of Hammer’s new YouTube channel, a 90 second history of Britain’s studio of blood has been released!  Not only that, but a short behind the scenes video has also premiered spotlighting the making of their upcoming feature The Quiet Ones.  Hammer’s YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/hammerfilms promises to update fans on the making of the upcoming feature as well as add new videos documenting their past films.  You can view both of these great videos and read more about the channel below.

The Hammer Films Channel will carry a range of exclusive new content, previews, commentary and behind the scenes material from upcoming new productions such as The Quiet Ones starring Jared Harris and Sam Claflin, and The Woman In Black: Angels Of Death, the follow up to the worldwide box office hit, The Woman In Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

In addition, the Hammer Films Channel will stream a collection of Hammer’s well-known classic feature film titles including The Quatermass Xperiment, The Man In Black and Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter, some of which have been newly restored and digitally re-mastered. As additional titles are added to the new platform, this will be the first time fans can view other digitally re-mastered classic Hammer films online under a restoration initiative launched earlier this year by Hammer’s owner Exclusive Media.

From the historic library, the Hammer Films Channel will also carry classic Hammer TV series such as ‘Hammer House Of Mystery And Suspense’, as well as new on-air commentary and film introductions from official Hammer historian, Marcus Hearn and Hammer archivist, Robert J.E. Simpson. Newly created featurettes and original trailer material, not seen by the public for many years, will also be added to the channel’s far reaching content. The Hammer Films Channel will continually expand its range of programming, with the full schedule to be published and regularly updated here.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
