THE RAVEN Trailer Flies in on a Broken Wing

I love John Cusack as much as the next 80’s film geek.  Better Off Dead is one of the most under appreciated dark comedies ever, and High Fidelity has rightfully deserved its now growing cult classic status.  Even with my love of Cusack placed prominently above my head like an old school boom-box, I still find it hard to watch him in this new trailer for The Raven.  Don’t get me wrong, he certainly looks the part.  It just seems like he’s coasting through with his performance.  Not to mention his delivery of some lines is just outright horrendous.  This was also my major problem with 1408 .  Yet, I’m still going to give this film a shot due to my love of James McTeigue’s handling of V For Vendetta and the overall look of the film which brings to mind a livelier version of From Hell.  Judge the trailer for yourself below. Nevermore.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
