Few indie directors have made as big of an impact on the history of film as Jim Jarmusch has. In his diverse career he has tackled a wide range of subjects and brought together some of the most talented actors to tackle his quirky dialogue. Stranger than Paradise was the first of his feature films and critics immediately took notice of his talent as the film won the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984. He followed that with such indie classics as Down By Law, Dead Man, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, and Coffee and Cigarettes – just to name a few. Only Lovers Left Alive will be the first film in his career that finds him dabbling with horror archetypes. Jarmusch’s matter-of-fact approach to filmmaking and bizarre sense of humor has me excited to see what he does with the subject of vampires. The first photo from the film has surfaced online exclusively to Indiewire. It shows two of the film’s stars, Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddelston, hidden behind sunglasses. Check out the photo below. Only Lovers Left Alive is currently in post-production but will most likely see a debut at this years Cannes Film Festival considering several of his past films have debuted at the esteemed festival. The image reminds me of Tony Scott’s underrated arthouse/ vampire film The Hunger. What are your thoughts?
