EVIL DEAD Remake lacks Ash

In more remake news  . . . I hate typing that . . . Sam Raimi and his team of writers have made what could quite possibly be the smartest decision anyone has ever done in the world of remakes.  With such a beloved title as The Evil Dead and with such an iconic character as Ash played by the irreplaceable Bruce Campbell, it would be next to impossible to try to compete with that.  So, the much adorned actor himself, Bruce Campbell, who will also be acting as a producer on the remake, finally put some remake rumors to rest.  Via his Twitter account, Campbell responded to a fan’s question asking, Who are they casting for ash?” His response could not have been a more perfect answer for this Evil Dead fan: “No Ash character currently.” He then went on to clarify, Twitter fails when info gets fragmented. Last statement: ED remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach.” I know that for a lot of people, the world of Evil Dead doesn’t exist without Ash.  My thinking is that Ash and Bruce Campbell are so synonymous with one another, that if you can’t get Campbell to play the part, don’t have the character.  Again, I reiterate: This is the best news that I have heard from any remake as of late. The Evil Dead is currently scheduled to be released in 2013. Diablo Cody has recently been attached to co-write the script with Raimi and others.  Fede Alvarez is set to direct the carnage.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
