The Coen Bros. are heading into “Full-on Horror!”

The dynamic duo who made a splash in 1984 with their “film noir” throw-back Blood Simple, have developed into two of the most recognizable and creative guys working in film today.  They have since gone on to explore a variety of genres including comedy, the thriller, and the western – but not horror.  Though No Country for Old Men certainly included elements of the horror genre, one can argue it is more of a thriller or modern western more than anything else.  Well, it seems Empire magazine has uncovered a little fact that may change all of this. In a recent interview, the brothers stated, “We’re working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster.” Not since Joel Coen worked as an assistant editor on The Evil Dead, has either of them worked on a full-on horror movie.  It is time for a celebration horror geeks . . . today is a good day!

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
