SHARK NIGHT 3D Loses its Bite with a PG-13 Rating

On September 2nd, instead of seeing lakes full of blood, hearing “F” bombs, and witnessing beautiful girls dropping their tops, we will get a much more watered down version of Shark Night 3D.  The David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination) fright flick swims into theaters on September 2 in an attempt to beat out competition with November’s Piranha 3DD.  Yet, that film will have the teeth to sink into fans.  It was just announced that Shark Night will be released with a PG-13 rating for violence and terror, disturbing images, sexual references, partial nudity, language and thematic material. I’m not one to complain about ratings . . . but I feel that a film like this deserves to be released with a R rating.  The film is being released through Relativity Media and Rogue who are most likely the culprits for this decision.  Though I’m sure the film could still be a fun time at the theater, this will still without a doubt disappoint horror fans.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
