Release Date Shuffle: FRIDAY THE 13TH, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY & RINGS

Deadline is reporting a bit of musical chairs with some release dates for some upcoming entries in horror franchises from Paramount Pictures including Friday the 13thParanormal Activity & a new entry in The Ring franchise. Read on, dear reader. Read on.

Something that should come as no surprise, considering very little information has come out from the production, the latest entry for Friday the 13th franchise will no longer be coming out on November 13, 2015. The entry now has a May 13, 2016 date – priming it up for Summer. Outside of having David Bruckner being announced as the director and the fact that Paramount wants to go a found-footage route, which gives further reason why Bruckner is the director, there is no information if this is a sequel, reboot or a remake of the original film.

Taking that November 13, 2015 date is a new entry in the American franchise of The Ring called Rings, which doesn’t seem to be related to the short of the same name directed by Jonathan Liebesman. The last entry, The Ring Two, was 10 years ago and technology has changed quite a bit since then. I’m sure they will take the angle of someone uploading the original VHS footage onto the internet, but that’s just a guess since not a lot of information has come out on this one, which is surprising that the date is about 9 months away. The film is still in Pre-Production and is being directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall), whom previously exited out of the director’s chair for The Crow remake. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rings moves from the November 13, 2015 date either.

Finally, the latest entry Paramount’s cash cow franchise, Paranormal Activity with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension which moved from March 13, 2015 will be moving to a more comfortable October date. Given that last year’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones had the lowest box office take and was the only entry outside of a fall/October slot, it seems like Paranormal made a smart move with this one.
