RED STATE will be available on VOD this September. . . and it won’t cost you $80

If your city was left off of Kevin Smith’s Red State road-tour or if you just didn’t want to shell out $80 to see the film in theaters, have no fear.  Starting September 5th (Labor Day), the religious prosecution can be seen in the comfort of your own home on VOD.  The news came via Smith’s blog where you can also read about him going on a long diatribe (AGAIN) about artistic integrity and the role of the independent filmmaker.  This VOD release will be followed by a short theatrical run and an eventual DVD/Blu-ray release through Lionsgate.  Though Smith won’t be available in person to screen the films like he did this spring, following some of the theatrical screenings “a rollicking, no-holds-barred live-streamed, interactive Q&A will be held.” Red State is a film that has been the talk of the town since its Sundance premiere earlier this year.  You will finally be able to see if it’s worth all the attention this September.  Red State unfolds in a small town dominated by a fundamentalist preacher, Abin Cooper. It tells the story of three high school boys who, on their way to an Internet arranged meeting with a woman, end up crossing paths with Cooper. The encounter sets into motion a series of events that causes all hell to break loose.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
