[REC] Director’s New Film will Not let US Audiences ‘SLEEP TIGHT’ This Fall

One of my favorite discoveries at Fantastic Fest in 2011 was Jaume Balaguero‘s Sleep Tight.  The director was one half of the directing duo who gave us the the double dose of handheld infection with [REC] and [REC] 2.  While his new thriller bites more on a psychological level than the gory intensity of his previous film, it’s a horror film that will stick in the minds of fans who enjoy a more gripping character study filled with suspense.  In a lot of ways it feels more like a modern version of a Hitchcock film.  You can read my entire review of the film HERE where I gave it a 9 out of 10!  Now, it seems American audiences will finally get to discover why it has been an award winning hit in Spain.  MPI Media Group has acquired the rights to release the film and will do so through Dark Sky Films.  It will receive a limited theatrical release before hitting VOD and DVD later on.  I promise that this is a film that you will want to check out later this year.  It’s a disturbing film that takes the viewer on a dark journey through the mind of a front-desk attendant in an apartment who becomes obsessed and begins to enter the bedroom of one of the building’s beautiful occupants while she sleeps at night.  Sounds pretty creepy, don’t you think?

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
