Piranha 3D Sequel Maybe Hitting Shores Sooner Than Expected

Dimension Films reported that they are in the process of getting the sequel to the well played Piranha 3D in theaters this upcoming summer of 2011. Not wanting to skip over next summer, Dimension has started casting and drafting the aptly titled Piranha 3DD so that it will be ready to cash in on the summer movie business. Somewhere, James Cameron is vomiting in a little brown paper bag.

Dimension has John Gulager (Feast) to direct the sequel and the writers of SAW 3D Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to do the screenplay. Making a surprising 71 million in box office, the first 3D fish film did well enough to have Dimension talking about a sequel after the first weekend. I myself thought the movie was great and full of fun. Anyone who took the film seriously and walked in with some expectations, I know hated the movie.  My question to you is, why come in with expectations about a bunch of fish eating spring breakers? To be honest with you, the T&A tongue and cheek, silly horror film has always had its place in this community and I hope they continue to make many more films like that.  When filmmakers attempt to scare you with a detailed story, crazy graphics, and strange music, yet fail,  it’s a disappointment.  But when they aren’t even trying and throwing out every joke and cliché in the book, you gotta love it. This is why I enjoyed myself during the film. I’m not sure if they are going forward with the initial story that was proposed about an all night party in Thailand being the setting for this sequel, but we will update you when more details develop.
