‘Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary’ App Now Available

For the past few years around this time of the season, we have witnessed the return of the found footage movies that were made famous by The Blair Witch Project (Cannibal Holocaust really paved the way originally). Even though Blair will have its place in certain horror history books, it will never be as significant as the film that followed closely in its footsteps but related closer to home: Paranormal Activity. With the release of the third film this weekend now you have a chance to keep a piece of the franchise with you at all times with the new ‘Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary’ App.

This app is available free of charge for Iphone, Ipad, and Ipod touch. You can download it from the Itunes store and delve more into the world of Katie and the rest of the happenings found in the films.

Using GPS based technology, the app presents the idea that you may have an encounter with the ghost from the film anywhere you go. Lets just say checking into certain places may do more than just update your Facebook status. Check out our Fantastic Fest Review of Paranormal Activity 3 here and Andy’s new review of the film. The press release from the game creators at Ogmento, Inc. is below:

Ogmento, Inc., a leading global publisher of location-based, augmented reality mobile games, has announced that in celebration of the opening of Paranormal Activity 3 this week, new missions and activities for iOS game Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary are being activated in and around movie theaters across North America. Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary is a free to play app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that can be downloaded from the iTunes Store now.

“Thousands of new players are entering the world of Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary every day, and we wanted to give all these players a new series of challenges they could undertake while out at the movies,” said Brian Selzer, President and Co-Founder of Ogmento. “Our location-based technology lets us place game events anywhere on the planet, and this a huge weekend for Paranormal Activity fans to be visiting movie theaters.”

Published by Ogmento under license from Paramount Digital Entertainment, Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary creates a new way for players to interact with their environment, where the world is the new game board and favorite neighborhood locations – coffee shops, grocery stores, parks – become integral elements in the game and transform a player’s daily routine into a riveting experience. Ogmento will be adding new, deadly missions that can be found by playing the location-based game on an iPhone or iPod Touch while in or near a movie theater in the real world.

Demonic forces are trying to bring hell to earth, and it’s up to players to withstand temptations and possessions to stop them. In Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary for the iPhone, players will have to choose a side in the global battle between good or evil. Using their iPhone at home, at work, or wherever they are, this location-based, augmented reality experience will empower players to seek out demonic activity that will test their sanity at every turn. Be careful not to succumb to evil urges, or players will become possessed by powerful dark forces. Cast spells to create sanctuaries around a player’s favorite places to keep the demons away, or submit to the unknown and spread hellholes across the city. But players can’t persevere on their own; they’ll want to recruit and collaborate with friends around the world to stay on top.
