PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 Screens in Austin! Plus, New Trailer!

Yes . . . you read that title correctly.  We got an advanced look at Paranormal Activity 3.  Although the third entry in the popular horror series doesn’t get released in theaters until October 21, we here have news and REVIEW of what the directors and star have described as a “nearly complete” film.  Fanatastic Fest is known to have numerous “Secret Screenings” each year for the many fans, writers, and bloggers who make the trip to the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin.  With rumors of numerous anticipated films swirling about the air prior to the screening, Tim League took to the stage in front of the sold-out crowd and brought out directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish).  Accompanying them was the face of the series, Katie, played by Katie Featherstone.  The audience’s initial reaction prior to the film was warm at best with a slight air of disappointment in their applause.  Both directors seemed a little timid at first and then preceded to announce that they had “just finished putting this together for this screening.”  They went on to explain that “the sound wasn’t fully complete.” Judging by all accounts, I can honestly say that it seemed complete to me, but I will get into that in my review.  Considering the series got an initial push from Fantastic Fest when it screened initially, it seems fitting to have continued in the tradition.

For now, enjoy the new, second trailer for Paranormal Activity 3 below.  As a friendly bit of info: Though the trailer looks to reveal a lot of scares, the print I was shown tonight doesn’t include about half of the stuff seen here.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
