OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS REVEALED FOR ‘DISTRICT 9’ DIRECTOR’S FOLLOW-UP ‘ELYSIUM’

Elysium – the new film from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp – wrapped shooting some time ago. The movie itself went into production beginning in 2010, and outside of a few pictures (editor’s note: and a bizarre viral site that popped up in July of 2011), nothing has been really emerged regarding the film. Not even the plot. That is until now. The sci-fi thriller starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster has finally released its synopsis.

Set in the future, this tale seems very similar to others where the rich isolate themselves from the poor and will do whatever it takes to keep it that way. Here is the official synopsis:

“In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.”

Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and William Fichtner. The film will tentatively hit theaters on March 1st, 2013. Once clips and trailers become available we will have them for you.
