MOTHER’S DAY Will Get A Theatrical Release

After weeks of speculation, Darren Lynn Bousman’s newest film Mother’s Day has been picked up for theatrical distribution.  It has been a roller-coaster of a ride for the director for the past couple of days. After screening it at Fantastic Fest, the director has been bombarded with praise and hate for his remake of the 1980 Troma film, Mother’s Day.  Although the director should be used to this by now (he openly admits that he hates Saw IV … even though he directed it), it must still be hard to hear people saying that Rebecca De Mornay should win an Oscar for her part while also hearing claims that it is the worst thing they have ever seen.  Regardless of others’ opinions, Gigapix Studios clearly saw something they liked.  Under a new distribution company, Gigapix Releasing, Mother’s Day will see the light of day … so that we can all judge it in its disturbing glory. Read on for more details.

The Hollywood Reporter has the full story, saying that the company has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to the thriller The TorturedThe Bleeding, and the horror remake Mother’s Day, which just had its premiere at Fantastic Fest. Gigapix plans a release later this year for The Bleeding, with releases for The Tortured and Mother’s Day planned for early next year.  We won’t have to wait that long at all for it to hit the big screen!  The article goes on to say that Gigapix Releasing plans to release between six to ten films per year.  For more info on the new company and details regarding the other films that were purchased, you can read the entire article here.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
