MARTYRS Remake Gets an Eye-Piercing Poster

Back in 2008, I heard of a French horror film called Martyrs. I don’t think I saw it until 2009 and I ended up not really caring for the movie. It definitely made me feel uncomfortable and, at the time, I said I wouldn’t watch it again. I applauded the film for unsettling me but I also remember being kind of bored towards the latter half. I will fully admit that it is possible that the reason I didn’t like Martyrs was because it started off like a normal horror film using tropes that I was used to and would later do a 180 and turn into something that I didn’t really sign up for. For the past 4 to 5 years, I have been telling myself that the film deserved another rewatch. Now, I come across another conundrum. Do I watch the 2015/2016 remake of the film before I rewatch the original or do I just plunge in. Obviously, plunging in could threaten the remake’s impact. However, knowing my schedule, I’ll probably watch the remake first.

For those of you that didn’t know, the film was remade earlier this year. It has already had a festival premiere which had some lukewarm reviews. I’m willing to give it a shot because I’m not “married” to the original. In fact, I probably shouldn’t rewatch the original, huh? Anchor Bay Entertainment will be handling the distribution for the new remake, directed by the Goetz Brothers (Scenic Route). We got our hands on the blood-red poster which you can find below.
