Kevin Smith Will Release RED STATE Himself, Complete with a Tour!

In a surprise that no one really saw coming – Kevin Smith decided to not auction off Red State this evening following its premier at Sundance. Well … technically it was on auction … Smith just purchased it for $20 from auction leader and Red State producer John Gordon. “Selling my film is equivalent to having a baby and sending it off for someone else to raise,” stated Kevin Smith.  So what is the next step? Find out after the jump. *UPDATE*- We now have the dates and cities of the tour!

Nothing would kill me more than selling this to some jackass,” described director Kevin Smith following the screening of the highly anticipated Red State.  He went on surprising attendees by announcing a plan to release the film on March 5th at the Radio City Music Hall.  This date will be the first among many scheduled as part of a nationwide tour that the film will take on.  Furthermore, both Kevin Smith and actor Michael Parks will be in attendance during this tour!  Don’t worry though if you are not lucky enough to live in or near one of these select cities, because Smith plans a wider release of the film beginning October 19.  Obviously, all of this news is coming out as we speak, so Destroy the Brain! will keep you updated with any further news as it comes available.  Personally, I couldn’t be happier with this decision, and I feel this will only draw more attention and anticipation to Kevin Smith’s first foray into horror territory. Good luck, Mr. Smith. God-speed.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
