Josh Brolin is set to Enact Revenge with a Hammer in Spike Lee’s OLDBOY Remake

The one positive thing that can come out of this breaking news-story is the fact that it isn’t Will Smith in the lead role.  You might remember that awhile back, Will Smith was “attached” to star in Spike Lee’s remake of the South Korean modern day classic.  As if the cinema gods heard the outcry of the hundreds of fanboys upset with the news, the Will Smith casting was quickly dismissed.  For me, Brolin still seems a really odd choice for me.  Granted, I love the actor and the many films I have seen him in I always enjoy his performances.  Yet, it still seems odd trying to see him portray the character from the 2003 film that is still so memorable in my eyes.  Mandate Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are set to produce the film with a script written by Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend).  I’m not surprised that this film is being remade.  With so many revenge films being made on a consecutive basis (Taken, I Saw the Devil, Columbiana, among others), I feel it has taken them awhile to get this remake off the ground.  Deadline was first to report the news.  As more info becomes available, we will let you know.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
