It Sounds Like Matthew Vaughn is the Director of ‘STAR WARS EPISODE 7’

Ahhh . . . don’t you just love when actors slip-up and accidentally reveal what may be the most anticipated movie news in quite some time.  There hasn’t been much movie news in the past month or so outside of what seems like an endless amount of Star Wars rumor articles.  I have avoided posting almost all of them for the simple fact that I treat rumors as simply that – rumors.  However, when a video appears that might finally give real evidence to a Star Wars rumor, I am going to be extremely interested and so should you.  The force seems to be strong with this clue to who may direct Star Wars Episode 7.

Matthew Vaughn (it seems) is going to be contributing to another classic series after doing a successful job doing the same thing for the X-Men series.  I have no problem with this fact and would seriously love to see him get the job, I just can’t help but recall earlier this month that Vaughn was attached to another project.  Many already speculated on his interest in Star Wars following his rather sudden departure from the X-Men: First Class sequel.  Comic fans might recall though that Mark Millar (Kick-Ass comic creator) recently spoke about Vaughn’s involvement in bringing another Millar comic to the big-screen: Secret Service.

“We thought Matthew was going to do X-Men first, but we found out there were actually a few imitators of ‘Secret Service’ in the works … Somebody will start to work on a spec screenplay about your idea. There are three other projects I know of now about a James Bond kind of guy taking a street kid and turning him into a spy. Three screenplays were already going through Hollywood about this! So Matthew and I said, ‘Fuck this. We’re not letting anyone steal our ideas.'”

So, many of us were under the impression that this was Vaughn’s next project.  I have a feeling that if indeed Jason Flemyng is correct, that maybe that project may need to be put on hold as well.  Flemyng (Snatch, X-Men: First Class) was recently caught on camera discussing his British mate Vaughn and the upcoming Star Wars franchise.

I have included the full video below along with a shortened transcript of what may or may not have been revealed.

HeyUGuys asked, “Have you chatted with Matthew (Vaughn) at all about any Star Wars potential . . . cause that could be three films.”

Flemyng responded with, ” (after making R2-D2 sounds and miming C-3PO followed by laughter) Me and Matt have done nine films together. So, I’m sure I’ll get the call for Star Wars but I’m sure it’ll literally be ‘Flemying, I know on paper it doesn’t look like much but I promise you it is essential to the part.’ So we’ll see what happens.”

HeyUGuys responded with, “So, Matthew is interested then  . . . in Star Wars.”

“I think that’s . . . (awkward expression that hints at the fact that he may have spoken too soon)  Uhh. . . yeah . . . he’s interested by the deal.  (playing it now as a joke) Yeah, I mean I can’t . . . (trails off)”

Keep in mind – this is all still rumors and nothing has been confirmed.  It’s safe to say though that this may be the biggest clue yet as to whom will be chosen by Disney to carry on one of the most important sci-fi franchises of all time.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
