GUILLERMO DEL TORO TO DELIVER ‘HEAVEN SENT’ STORY TO STUDIO

What’s Heaven Sent you ask? Well, if you’re a complete pop culture nerd like myself then you would know that it is the tentative title of a new movie being developed off of the Justice League Dark characters. Many are not familiar with Justice League Dark but a few names might sound familiar to you. Swamp Thing, Constantine, Zatanna, and Boston Brand aka The Deadman (which also was my Halloween costume last year) are all characters from DC’s Justice League Dark series. While I’m not overall pleased with the way the New 52 series has handled their story, hearing these characters mentioned by some one like Del Toro has me foaming at the mouth.

Looks like Toro is ready to make his pitch to Warner Bros as reported today by Total Film. He states …

“I am going to be presenting my storyline to DC and Warners of where I want to take this universe. We do have a writer, but until that is firmed up, I have to keep it a secret. I hope it happens… It’s going really really well. It’s like meeting old friends. I grew up with Demon Etrigan, with Swamp Thing, with Deadman, so these are characters that are near and dear to my heart.”

The best thing about all this is he truly loves these characters I mean, why else would he do it?  The question is whether or not the world is ready for Justice League Dark? One reporter called it “a weird Avengers movie.” In a sense the Avengers would have problems dealing with the mystic ways of the Dark crew but I think that the occult nature involved could produce an extraordinary tale. Del Toro goes on to say..

“I’d love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig.

He also stated that it won’t follow the current series and will really focus on each character as a whole and not just cameos. Boston Brand is a legend in the DC Universe.  If  you want to know more about him then I would suggest you check out “The Blackest Night Series” or a few episodes of Batman The Bold and The Brave. You all know Keanu Reeves as John Constantine – the cigarette smoking original man with the sixth sense that could see demons and dead people. Do I need to mention Swamp Thing or can you remember the great movies and television show it spawned in the 90’s? Zatanna is a great character too that you can catch glimpses of on the popular animated show Young Justice. She is the cute brunette in the magic outfit speaking backwards. All in all, I hope this develops to show the mainstream world that not all heroes are dark nights, iron men and webslingers!
