Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Logo for Raimi’s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Mr. Sam Raimi has been in the news quite a bit lately.  First, with the recent rumblings surrounding the remake of his horror classic The Evil Dead, which he will help release.  Now, with his upcoming prequel Oz: The Great and Powerful, a photo has emerged thanks to actress Abigail Spencer tweeting the above logo.  Utilizing the bright emerald green background with a nice black script font, the logo seems to be very catchy upon first glance (even if it kind of looks like a Zorro “Z”).  The film which is set for release March 7th, 2013, has director Sam Raimi leading an all-star cast including James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Zach Braff.  The film details how a regular magician (James Franco) becomes the wizard of Oz after his hot-air balloon takes a wrong over the rainbow.  Yet, first he must deal with three witches (Williams, Weisz and Kunis).  Check out the full photo after the break.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I have loved almost everything Raimi has touched over the years, I wouldn’t be as excited about this.  Since Raimi is at the helm though, I am willing to take a trip down the yellow brick road.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
