Early Screenings Announced For ‘EVIL DEAD’ and A Sequel Is Already in the Works

The Evil Dead remake possessed its very first audience this weekend as it premiered at SXSW.  It fairly unanimously received positive reviews, re-affirming the positive buzz we have all felt following two outstanding and gory trailers. While Dead fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief knowing that the remake isn’t a complete waste, who most likely is even more joyous over the success of this weekend’s reception are the producers and studios behind the film.  The horror genre has given us many franchises over the years including the previous Evil Dead trilogy.  Although it sounds like it won’t follow Sam Raimi’s initial path that Ash took us on, a new trilogy is being planned and at a rapid pace.

During the post-show Q&A Friday night, Fede Alvarez revealed this about a future installment in the horror series:

“I guess this is an official announcement: We are already writing Evil Dead 2.”

A few interviews with the crew at the festival reveal who may or may not be returning for the sequel.  Considering the majority of our readers haven’t seen the film yet, I don’t want to ruin anything by typing it here; just know that you can find interviews elsewhere if you want to read a little more about what to expect from the sequel.

Update: We are seeing what it will take to get you guys into the early screening here in St. Louis.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
