Drew Struzan’s SUPER 8 poster is a fitting homage to the classics that inspired it
Drew Struzan has a made a name for himself with beautiful poster designs for such classic films as The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Gremlins, Back to the Future, Blade Runner, and Hellboy, just to name a few of the 150 plus movie posters he has airbrushed and painted over the years. His character collage aesthetic has a unique feel to it that makes his work instantly recognizable. Often imitated but never duplicated, Struzan’s poster designs were once often the main reason why I, and I’m sure many others, wanted to see a specific film being released in theaters. Since J.J. Abrams’ coming of age sci-fi film is a direct nod to many of these classic films, what’s better than to have the man responsible for these long-lasting poster designs create one for Super 8. This new Super 8 poster is easily the best poster released yet and will certainly put a smile on the faces of the Struzan fans out there. You won’t get a peak at the alien in this stylized poster, but you will get a healthy bit of nostalgia and a feel of the tone Spielberg and Abrams has in store for you with Super 8.
