Check out the First Images of Katniss and Finnick in ‘HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE’

I’m currently in a sea of California stoners and surf-noir with the book Inherent Vice.  I just began reading Thomas Pynchon’s ode to the long summer days of 1970’s culture mixed with mystery and film-noir undertones, but the next book on my reading list that I can’t wait to break into is Catching Fire – the follow-up to The Hunger Games.  Because Hollywood clearly thinks the general public is too stupid to catch on that the films are related, the studios behind the film have retitled the anticipated sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  Wouldn’t it be just as ridiculously unnecessary if the new 007 film was titled James Bond: Skyfall?  I’ll get off my soapbox and simply let you know enjoy the new Entertainment Weekly cover and new image from inside the magazine below.  Once again, we see Jennifer Lawrence as the beautiful and strong Katniss Everdeen but are also introduced to Finnick Odair played by Sam Claflin.  Is Finnick supposed to look a lot like Aquaman or is it just me?  I guess I will have to find out once I dig into the book.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire enters theaters Nov. 22.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
