Good . . .I’m glad I now have your attention. Because, honestly, who doesn’t love themselves some Mad Max or Road Warrior? Bellflower is the new directorial debut by Evan Glodell. The film has ignited rave reviews by fans and critics at SXSW and Sundance. If you aren’t impressed by the new trailer that has surfaced online for the festival darling, what if I told you he wrote the script when he was 23 and designed a specialty rig just to shoot this feature film? Bellflower is an independent film that most likely will see a very limited release. It will be opening in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, August 5th, 2011. Bellflower is being distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories, the same group that brought us Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale.
Best friends Woodrow and Aiden spend all of their free time building Mad Max-inspired flamethrowers and muscle cars in preparation for a global apocalypse. But when Woodrow meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love, he and Aiden quickly integrate into a new group of friends, setting off on a journey of love and hate, betrayal, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
