AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING Wants You to Like Its New Post-er

Wow, that was a cheesy headline, huh? I do what I can folks. I do what I can. You’ve probably known that there has been a new Amityville film coming down the pike. The trailer was released back in August of 2014 with an expected January 2, 2015 release. That date went by and we heard nothing. If you need a refresher, check out the trailer along with the poster below.

There’s no doubt that there are still fans of the franchise and the involvement of director Franck Khalfoun, who filmed Amityville: The Awakening after coming off the Maniac remake with Elijah Wood, might perk up some eyeballs. In addition, Blumhouse is involved in this new entry which is probably why it has shown up on some lists of anticipated horror films for 2016. Then again, I think fans of this genre know that everyone has to eat as well, and this could have just been an easy cash grab. I guess we’ll have to find out for ourselves when Dimension Films will release it wide on April 1st, 2016.

In the film, Belle and her family move into a new house, but when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

The film stars Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan and Kurtwood Smith. Daniel Farrands (Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers) and Casey La Scala co-wrote the script and produce with Jason Blum from Blumhouse.
