After weeks of speculation, Tarantino has his Star for DJANGO UNCHAINED

If you have followed the roller coaster ride that was the casting for Django Unchained, you can now finally breathe a sigh of relief.  Ever since the script for Quentin Tarantino’s next film leaked online at the beginning of May, rumors have been circling regarding the casting of the film’s slave turned bounty hunter.  For awhile, it was speculated that the director wanted a big name for the lead and thus was shooting to bring Will Smith aboard.  Following Smith’s supposed disinterest in the project, character actor Idris Elba (WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT!) was apparently in talks.  Then in the past few days we heard a new name: Jamie Foxx.  Well, Deadline is now officially saying that that name is in fact the lead in the film.  Jamie Foxx will join Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson, in this tale of a slave who is freed to help a German bounty hunter track down his previous owner.  While doing so, the two then decide to free Django’s wife who is enslaved by the evil Calvin  Candie.  You can read my review of the script by clicking HERE.  I can’t say I ever pictured Foxx while reading the script, but maybe the Oscar winner will surprise me.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
